Compatibility and selection

Plan B muzzle devices.

A Plan B mounting system combines a compatible muzzle device on the firearm with a matching suppressor-side mount. This guide also explains direct-thread HUB adapters, common thread pitches and peel-washer timing so you can narrow the options before confirming every manufacturer specification.

Updated September 9, 2026This guide is educational. It does not replace the current instructions or compatibility limits published by the firearm, barrel, ammunition, muzzle-device, mount or suppressor manufacturer.

What is a Plan B compatible muzzle device?

A Plan B compatible muzzle device is the firearm-side component in a taper-mount system. Its external geometry is designed to engage a compatible Plan B suppressor mount. The taper helps create a consistent seating surface while the threaded portion retains the mounted component. The muzzle device still needs the correct barrel thread, suitable bore clearance and proper shoulder fit for the firearm.

Plan B compatibility does not mean that every muzzle device, adapter and suppressor can be combined without checking dimensions. A complete system includes the barrel threads and shoulder, the muzzle device, the suppressor-side mount or HUB adapter, the suppressor’s available blast-chamber depth, and the projectile path through the assembled system.

Barrel side

Confirm thread pitch, thread direction, shoulder geometry and caliber with the barrel manufacturer.

Muzzle device

Confirm bore rating, timing requirements, overall length and the exact Plan B mounting geometry.

Suppressor side

Confirm the suppressor accepts the mount, has adequate internal clearance and remains within all manufacturer limits.

Flash comp or brake comp?

A flash compensator is intended to distort visible flash during unsuppressed use. The Plan B Flash Comps offered here do not require timing. A brake compensator is intended to redirect gas to reduce recoil during unsuppressed use; the Plan B Brake Comps require timing and include a peel washer. A brake chamber can also serve as a sacrificial surface ahead of the suppressor, but the suppressor manufacturer’s specifications remain controlling.

Where a HUB suppressor adapter fits.

HUB is a widely used name for a 1.375–24 rear suppressor thread. When a suppressor is genuinely compatible with that interface, a HUB-to-Plan-B adapter can provide the suppressor-side part of the system. The Plan B HUB Mount Adapter uses 1.375–24 internal HUB threads, .900–24 external threads and a 25-degree taper.

HUB compatibility alone is not the entire answer. Verify the suppressor model, rear thread, mount length, blast-chamber clearance, caliber, ammunition, barrel length restrictions and alignment requirements. If the combination is not explicitly supported, contact the suppressor manufacturer or a qualified gunsmith before use.

Important: Never assume compatibility from the words “Plan B” or “HUB” alone. Verify the exact components and specifications in the assembled system.

Plan B mount or direct thread?

The Plan B HUB Mount Adapter connects a compatible HUB suppressor to the Plan B mounting interface on a compatible muzzle device. A Direct-Thread HUB Adapter follows a different path: it connects a compatible HUB suppressor directly to a confirmed barrel thread without a Plan B muzzle device between them.

Choose one supported mounting path. A HUB-to-Plan-B adapter and a Direct-Thread HUB Adapter are alternatives; they are not intended to be stacked together.

Where peel washers fit.

Peel washers are timing hardware for compatible muzzle devices. Removing individual laminated layers changes the washer thickness in small increments so the device can be indexed correctly. A peel washer does not change the barrel’s thread pitch, enlarge bore clearance or make an unsupported suppressor combination compatible.

Use only the size and installation method specified for the muzzle device. Follow the muzzle-device manufacturer’s current torque and installation instructions.

Plan B muzzle device checklist.

  • Identify the barrel’s exact thread pitch and direction.
  • Confirm projectile caliber is within the muzzle device or suppressor system’s rating.
  • Inspect the barrel shoulder and required mounting surface.
  • Choose a supported Plan B or direct-thread mounting path.
  • Choose flash-comp or brake-comp behavior when using a muzzle device.
  • Use the correct timing hardware when the selected muzzle device requires it.
  • Confirm suppressor depth, bore, caliber and ammunition limits.
  • Follow each manufacturer’s current torque and installation instructions.
  • Verify alignment with appropriate equipment before firing suppressed.

Frequently asked questions.

Are all Plan B muzzle devices suppressor compatible?

They are designed around a Plan B mounting interface, but the complete combination must still be verified for barrel threads, bore, mount, suppressor depth, caliber and manufacturer approval.

Is a Direct-Thread HUB Adapter the same as a HUB-to-Plan-B adapter?

No. A Direct-Thread HUB Adapter connects a compatible HUB suppressor directly to a confirmed barrel thread. A HUB-to-Plan-B adapter connects the suppressor to a compatible Plan B muzzle device.

Does a peel washer change thread compatibility?

No. A peel washer provides small thickness adjustments for indexing a compatible muzzle device. It does not make one thread pitch fit another.

Which thread pitch should I choose?

Choose only the pitch confirmed by the barrel manufacturer or verified markings and measurement. The Plan B catalog includes 1/2–28 and 5/8–24 options, but those pitches are not universal.
