Product comparison

Flash comp vs. muzzle brake.

Both options provide a Plan B compatible mounting interface. The practical difference is what the muzzle device is designed to do when the firearm is used without a suppressor: distort visible flash or redirect gas to help reduce recoil.

Start with fitmentFunction comes after compatibility. Confirm the barrel thread, caliber, shoulder, suppressor mount and every component manufacturer’s current limits first.

The short answer.

Choose a flash comp when

You prioritize a compact, no-timing Plan B muzzle device intended to distort visible flash during unsuppressed use.

Choose a brake comp when

You prioritize gas redirection and recoil reduction during unsuppressed use and are prepared to time the device.

For suppressed use

Either still requires a compatible Plan B suppressor mount plus verified depth, bore, caliber, alignment and operating limits.

All four Plan B muzzle devices are 1.75 inches long, machined in America from 4150 CMV steel and finished with QPQ nitride. The brake comps include a peel washer for timing. The flash comps require no timing.

Peel washer sizing for brake timing.

Plan B peel washers are laminated-steel timing hardware. The 1/2-inch ID Peel Washers are sold in a six-pack and measure .506 inch ID. The 5/8-inch ID Peel Washers are sold in a four-pack and measure .631 inch ID. Both sizes measure .820 inch OD and .063 inch overall, with .002-inch peelable layers.

A peel washer provides small thickness adjustments for proper indexing. It does not change the muzzle device’s thread pitch or bore compatibility. Confirm the required washer dimensions and follow the muzzle-device manufacturer’s current installation instructions.

How the suppressor mount affects the choice.

A compatible Plan B suppressor mount engages the mounting interface on either muzzle-device style. If the suppressor uses a compatible HUB rear interface, a HUB-to-Plan-B adapter may provide that mount. However, the final decision still depends on the suppressor’s blast-chamber clearance, mount dimensions, caliber, ammunition and manufacturer approval.

A 1/2–28 or 5/8–24 Direct-Thread HUB Adapter is a different mounting path that connects a compatible HUB suppressor directly to a confirmed barrel thread. It is not used together with a Plan B muzzle device.

Frequently asked questions.

Does a muzzle brake make a firearm louder?

Redirecting gas can increase perceived blast and concussion around the shooter and nearby people. Evaluate the intended use and follow all hearing-protection guidance.

Does the Plan B Flash Comp need to be timed?

No. The Plan B Flash Comp product specifications state that timing is not required.

What does a peel washer change?

A peel washer changes the spacing used to index a compatible muzzle device. It does not change the barrel thread, muzzle-device bore or suppressor compatibility.

Can either style mount a suppressor?

Both are built around Plan B compatibility, but the exact mount, suppressor, bore, depth, caliber and alignment must be verified as a complete system.
